Defrosting the freezer will help keep it clean and working properly. Mrs Hinch fans have shared a cleaning trick to complete the task in no time.

With Christmas on the way, some Britons will want to make room in the freezer for food items.

Ice can take up a lot of room and make the freezer less efficient.

Searching online can be a great way to get tips on how to clean a property.

Fans of the cleaning guru Mrs Hinch, real name Sophie Hinchcliffe, have made social media groups dedicated to their favourite tips.

Posting in a Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group, one woman asked for advice on her freezer.

How to defrost a freezer

The homeowner shared a picture inside her freezer with drawers full of ice.

She wrote: “Has anyone got any idea of the best way to defrost this freezer?

“It’s integrated but we normally use our other one.

“With a baby on the way I want to clear both out so I can batch cook but obviously I need to get this defrosted first. Best way to do it without making a complete mess?”

Other cleaning fanatics replied to the post with their favourite tips.

Many explained simply using hot water could help get the job done in no time at all.

One said: “I emptied the trays and filled them with hot water. It was done in 10 mins with a bit of scraping.”

Another added: “Use a washing up bowl or similar with a kettle full of hot water.

“Shut the door for 30 mins and ice will melt and soften. Put lots of towels on the floor.”

A third agreed, stating: “First thing is to put the kettle on then turn the freezer off with all drawers and food out.

“Once the kettle is boiled, place the hot water into a pan and place on the bottom shelf. Shut the freezer door and return 30 minutes later.”

It is easy to overlook tasks like defrosting a freezer but doing so can be very important.

Neglecting the job can cause a build up of ice and make the freezer more expensive to run.

It should be cleaned around once a year to keep it in working order.
